This guide puts the Instaquote chat bubble on every page of your WordPress site. You'll copy your code, paste it once in your site's footer code, and add your website's address to your Sites list. You don't need to be technical.
What you need:
- Your Instaquote console login
- Admin access to your WordPress dashboard
- On WordPress.com: a paid plan (see Option D)
Step 1: Copy your Instaquote code
- Log in to your Instaquote console.
- Go to the Install & origins page.
- Under How should it show on your site?, leave Chat bubble (recommended) selected. That's the small chat button in the bottom-right corner of every page.
- Click Copy code.
Your code is two short pieces: a <div> and a <script>. It looks something like this:
<div id="instaquote" data-firm-id="YOUR_FIRM_ID" data-api-url="https://api.instaquoteai.app" data-mode="chat" data-locale="en-AU" data-environment="production" data-firm-name="Your Business" data-embed="bubble"></div>
<script src="https://widget.instaquoteai.app/v1/widget.js" defer></script>Don't type it out. Your own code has your business details in it, so always use Copy code and paste it exactly as it is.
Step 2: Paste it once, site-wide, at the end of the page
Pick one of the options below. Whichever you use, add the code in one place only. If it's already on your site another way, remove the old copy first, or the chat can load twice.
- Not sure, or none of the others apply? Use Option A: WPCode. It's free and works on almost any WordPress site.
- Got Elementor Pro? Option B.
- Using the Divi theme? Option C.
- On WordPress.com? Option D.
Don't use the block editor's Custom HTML block, and never put the code in your theme header. The chat needs to be site-wide, at the end of the page.
Option A: WPCode (free plugin, recommended)
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
- Go to Plugins > Add New. Search for WPCode, then click Install Now and Activate.
- In the left menu, go to Code Snippets > Header & Footer.
- Paste your Instaquote code into the Footer box. Leave the Header and Body boxes alone.
- Click Save Changes (top right).
- If you use a caching plugin, clear the cache.
Option B: Elementor Pro
You need Elementor Pro (the paid version). On free Elementor, use WPCode instead.
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Elementor > Custom Code.
- Click Add New Custom Code and give it a title, like "Instaquote".
- Set Location to
</body>- End. - Paste your Instaquote code into the code box.
- Click Publish. When asked for conditions, choose Entire Site, then save.
- Clear your cache if you use a caching plugin.
Option C: Divi theme
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Divi > Theme Options.
- Click the Integration tab.
- Make sure Enable body code is switched on.
- Paste your Instaquote code into the box called Add code to the < body >. Don't use the head box.
- Click Save Changes, then clear your cache if you use a caching plugin.
Option D: WordPress.com
WordPress.com (where WordPress hosts the site for you) only allows this kind of code on a paid plan. The free plan won't work.
- Make sure your site is on a paid plan. If WordPress asks you to turn on hosting features, say yes.
- Install the free WPCode plugin (Plugins > Add New, search "WPCode", install and activate).
- Follow Option A from step 3.
Step 3: Add your site to the Sites list
Instaquote only runs on websites you've approved.
- In your Instaquote console, go to Install & origins.
- Check the Sites list. Every address your site runs on must be there, exactly.
- If one's missing, go to Add a site, type the full address (like
https://www.yourbusiness.com.au), then click Add site.
A few things to know about addresses:
- www and non-www are two different sites. If both work, add both.
- Include the
https://, and the port if there is one. - Each subdomain needs its own entry.
New sites can take up to a minute to start working.
Check it's working
The chat doesn't show in the WordPress editor or in previews, so always check your live site.
- Make sure your changes are saved and your cache is cleared.
- Wait about a minute.
- Open your live website in a private window (Incognito in Chrome, Private in Safari).
- Look for the chat bubble in the bottom-right corner.
- Click it and ask a test question, like "How much to replace a tap?"
If it answers, you're done.
Troubleshooting
The bubble isn't showing
- Are you looking at the editor or a preview? Check the live site in a private window instead.
- Is your site on the Sites list, exactly as people visit it (www or not, with
https://)? If it shows as Being blocked, click Add this site, wait a minute, then reload. - Did you clear your caching plugin's cache?
- Is the code in the footer or body end area? It shouldn't go in the theme header, a page section or a Custom HTML block.
- On WordPress.com, is your site on a paid plan?
The chat appears twice or acts strangely
The code is probably on your site more than once, for example in WPCode and in your theme. Remove the extra copy so it's only in one place.
The chat sits in the page, not the corner
You've got the inline version. In the console, go to Install & origins, pick Chat bubble (recommended), click Copy code, and replace the old code with the new code. Don't add a second copy.
